Recipes to Celebrate National Potato Day
National Potato Day is on August 19th, and we are celebrating by sharing delicious potato recipes from around the world!
Why Potatoes?
Potatoes are a starchy root vegetable, with origins that date back to around 8000-5000 BC. Although they were originally domesticated in Peru and Bolivia, they have since become a food staple in countries around the world. Potatoes are not only delicious, but also quite nutritious, too. They offer a good source of Vitamin B6, dietary fiber, Potassium, and Vitamin C - and even have more Potassium than bananas!
This easy recipe from Taste of Home only takes about an hour to whip up. It has cheese, butter, and fresh herbs - everything that pairs perfectly with potatoes! This style is known as Hasselback, named after the Hasselbacken Restaurant in Sweden where it originated.
The Eating European blog shared this flavorful and authentic Greek potato recipe. They’re soft on the inside with slightly crispy edges, topped with lemon, garlic, and oregano. The best part? It tastes as good as it looks.
