Comfort... but Make It Fashion
Prioritizing your comfort does not mean you need to sacrifice your style. If anything, it can inspire you to get even more creative with your fashion choices and try new styles you may not have considered. With just a few small tweaks and considerations you can create a lounge-able wardrobe for a cozy and chic day at home.
Jumpsuit
Jumpsuits are a quick way to create a complete outfit without much thought, and they usually give your body a bit more room to move. Find a jumpsuit that is made out of a comfortable and breathable material, like cotton, and drapes your figure in a flattering way. If you’re a jumpsuit novice go for a neutral colour that will easily layer under sweaters, cardigans, and jackets.
Of course loose fitting clothing is a staple of any comfortable wardrobe, but the trick is to avoid looking disheveled or like you are wearing pyjamas. A simple solution is to show off a bit of skin. For example, if you’re wearing loose, long pants you can expose your arms or chest. If you’re a sweatpants and sweatshirt aficionado, trade them in for wide leg trousers and flowy blouses. Lastly, avoid oversized plain T-shirts and go for graphic or statement tees instead. The trick is to make your outfit look purposeful and not like you just rolled out of bed.
Most people avoid wearing jeans like the plague when they are trying to be comfortable, but they have it all wrong! Some jeans like jeggings, boyfriend jeans, and straight legs are both extremely comfortable and easy to style. Pair them with a cotton top, sweater, or even a stretchy bodysuit to create a stylish and snug look. Basic black leggings are a staple in every woman’s closet and can easily be paired with oversized chunky sweaters or long button-down shirts. To take your simple black leggings to a whole new level switch them out with faux leather leggings. Yes, they are still just as comfortable while effortlessly adding an extra element of style and edge.
Dresses
Dresses are not just for going out anymore. The right type of dress can be a cozy and breezy choice for lounging around your home. Just like jumpsuits, dresses are a one and done outfit choice that eliminates the extra effort needed to style multiple pieces. Instead of fitted and short dresses, go for midi length, flowy, and stretchy options. In the best circumstances a dress can feel like a comfy blanket or robe.
Last but not least, complete your comfy chic look with easy accessories. Throwing on earrings or a necklace can dress up any basic outfit. In fact, a quality pair of sleeper hoops or a thin gold chain can be worn day and night without being felt whatsoever. Also, skip the itchy contacts and embrace your glasses to add an extra fashion element to your outfit.
Being fashionable and comfortable at the same time may seem difficult, but it’s actually completely achievable. Throw out your sweats because creating purposeful and fashionable looks that you can still enjoy while relaxing is a worthwhile pursuit. What is your go-to comfortable outfit choice? If you find me at home this spring I’ll be in my favourite floral dress and oversized fleece cardigan.
