Everyone is Wearing Their Sandals Over Garments

Everyone is Wearing Their Sandals Over Garments

Wearing your sandals over garments has been trending for a couple of seasons, and we're now convinced.

Last year, we saw celebrities and fashion bloggers everywhere tying their heels over their pants. This season we're seeing it again, but this time over socks as well. Wearing socks with sandals isn't a new concept, it's been around for as long as I can remember. There's even a wikipedia page dedicated to this controversial fashion combination with earliest evidence pointing to Romans wearing socks with sandals 2000 years ago. It pops back up every few years with peaks at 2010, 2014, and now.

So basically if you want to look trendy this Spring, tie your sandals over something. Let's look at some examples..

Socks Over Sandals

Recently Lisa from Blackpink paired her gold outfit with black socks and sandals to attend Prada's FW20 show during Paris fashion week. It's a cute, subtle way to participate in Spring's popular trend.

...or texture, how about lace? Ribbons?

Sandals Over Pants

It's about time we gave ankles the accentuation they deserve! We first saw this look at Bottega Veneta’s Resort 2020 collection (last June) and variations have been all over my timeline ever since. I love the shape laced-up sandals give the legs when paired with boot-cut or straight-leg trousers (be sure not to choose too wide). It almost looks like it shouldn't work, but it does so well. Make sure you grab sandals that have long enough laces!

I love when little styling tricks like this pop up and give me new modern ways to wear items I already have in my closet. I hope this inspires you to give it a try and possibly put your own spin on it with your favourite textures and colours!
