Fall/Winter is my favourite time for everything- fashion (layering!), decor (Halloween & Christmas), food (I love hearty stews and soups/hot drinks), you get the idea..but also nail art! Every year I look forward to making my "Halloween Nails", followed by my "Christmas Nails". This list isn't too Halloweeny or Christmasy..but it is dark because I love black nails at this time of year, and draws in inspiration from this the fall/winter runway collections.

1. Black Marble

IPSY

I LOVE THE WAY THIS LOOKS- so elegant, so refined but dark and fun! You can mix in gold or silver to give it a more polished look.

IPSY Nailed it with their tutorial.

2. Dark Floral

Since florals for spring aren't "ground-breaking", why not wear them for the fall?

This works especially well because one of the fashion trends for fall/winter 2019 is "Dark Romance"

I love the juxtaposition of mixing feminine pieces with contrasting grunge pieces in my outfits (a lace dress with a leather jacket). This idea is that notion, but on your hands.

Moody flowers are a vibe. Bright but gloomy. Pretty but somber.

3. Cat Ears

My out-grown cat ears nail

This is something I've seen done many times in Japan with many animals; bats, cats, bunnies, bears- if it has ears you can probably create a cute nail out of it.

Use hard gel to mould the nail tip into cat ears. make sure you do it thick and file it a lot so it's smooth, these two things will make sure it lasts long and doesn't snag on things. Keep it plain and simple, or add a cat face!

4. Add Holiday Elements

Add in some holiday cheer with your favourite symbols, characters, or items pertaining to what you're celebrating. It gives every outfit you wear a little sparkle of holiday spirt.

5. Textured Black

Try matte, glossy, sparkly, studded, or mix all of the above for some really cool dimensional effortlessly chic nails.

If you mix these ideas together you get this:

Try these out for yourself (most are very DIY-able) to have something cute poking out of your favourite knit sweater this season.
