Spring's No-Makeup Makeup Look
Among the makeup trends popping up this spring is one that is all about embracing and highlighting your own natural beauty. The goal of the no-makeup makeup look is to make your makeup application look like you aren't wearing any at all. The result is a simple and straightforward routine that makes you look like you “woke up like this.” Here’s how to nail this look.
Sheer Foundation
Start with a sheer foundation that applies a tint of color but doesn’t completely mask your skin. You want your skin’s natural hues to shine through, but with a slightly more evened tone. A good option is a BB cream with SPF to balance and protect your skin. Opt for a dewy finish instead of matte, unless you are prone to oily skin. If you have any visible blemishes you can apply a small dot of concealer over that specific area, but be careful not to generously apply on wide areas like you may normally do when highlighting and contouring.
Sunkissed
Finish off your skin with just a touch of bronzer and blush to mimic a sunkissed fresh glow. You worked hard to create a natural base, so make sure you don’t cover it all up with powder. It’s best to use cream products that more closely mimic the natural sheen of skin. Apply a dash of bronzer into the hollows of your cheek and blend it completely. You can also use that same hue on your eyelids for a bit of depth. Finish with a cream blush that is a hue of pink you would normally find in your skin tone, like rose, and apply that to the apples of your cheeks and the top of your nose - the areas where the sun naturally hits.
Brows
Brows are admittedly one of the first indicators that someone is wearing makeup. There is nothing wrong with a bold brow, but for the no-makeup makeup look, tone it back. Use tools that help you create natural looking strokes, such as thin brow pencils or fiber brow gels. Follow the natural strokes of your eyebrows, and avoid the sharp angular shapes that are popular in glamour makeup. Remember that most natural brows are not perfectly filled in, so don't do that here! You can also set the look in place with a clear brow gel.
Mascara
Everyone loves thick, beautiful lashes, but choose a natural looking formula when going for this look. The biggest goal here is to avoid clumps since natural eyelashes never have them. For best results, select a lengthening formula without fiber additives. As far as colour choice, select a colour that matches your eyebrows instead of going for the usual black. Start halfway up the lash before stroking upwards to avoid any access formula getting on your base and muddying up the eye.
A simple touch of colour on the lips will make your face look healthy, younger, and more vibrant. Instead of using a liquid lipstick, go for tinted moisturisers or sheer formulas that do not have matte finishes. For best results, use a similar toned pink to the blush you used on your cheeks.
Freckles
This spring everyone is embracing their freckles. And if they are freckle-free, some are going as far as to draw on their own. Accentuate your existing freckles or create them from scratch with a brown eyebrow pencil or a specialised faux freckle product.
These simple and quick steps are all it takes to achieve spring’s no-makeup makeup look. Remember that less is more and it’s all about embracing the unique characteristics of your face, because they are what make you uniquely beautiful after all!
